In a widely-published story for the Associated Press, Leanne Italie wrote that Not all that long ago E L James was Snowqueens Icedragon, cranking out her sexed-up "Twilight" fan fiction online. Well, faster than you can shriek your safe word, her kinky "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy has fanfic of its very own in the same place where she first serialized her story under a different title. Italie goes on to quote many actual, honest-to-goodness fanfic writers, none of them named Henry Jenkins. Responding to this story for EW Popwatch, Hillary Busis asked, What happens if one of these stories eventually morphs into another “original” novel? Will all fiction one day be traceable back to Twilight? Is the publishing landscape destined to be clogged with imitations of imitations, each more poorly written than the last?

Another interesting 50SoG article was by Alyssa Rosenberg, for ThinkProgress: The novel, a self-published best-seller that started as Twilight fan fiction and subsequently landed print publication and a major movie deal, is essentially a conventional romance about a broken man rescued by the love of a good woman. But Fifty Shades‘ embrace of BDSM isn’t tight enough to leave a bruise, or to open up a serious conversation about power in intimate relationships.

In other 50SoF news... )

In things non-50SoG, The Boston Phoenix had a piece on an upcoming fanfic reading: Fanfiction is a tricky thing. It can be good, it can be godawful, and it can be just plain creepy.

And, finally, in a really nice piece for Forbes, Jeff Bercovici quoted Josh Whedon on fanfic: There isn’t a better barometer of the kind of success that I crave, which is that people haven’t only enjoyed the work; they’ve internalized it. I don’t, obviously, spend all my days reading it because that would make me creepy, but it’s a huge, huge thing for me that people have taken it into their lives.

I MISS LJ. I miss LJ being alive and full of excitement. Tumblr is so not my thing. Aside from the amusing viral reblogs, I only really enjoy it when I'm talking to people I talk to here anyway.

So. I finally got rid of most of my SPN/CWRPS icons, except the ones with too much sentimental value, and that's basically the fannish equivalent of sending back all the presents your ex gave you so I guess I am REALLY TRULY DONE. (Except for when [info]theoret was telling me about Sam's face in the finale and I had feeling about Sam's face. gdit Sam's face, I wish I knew how to quit you.)

And what with all the excitement and preamble and release of Avengers, it occurs to me that I'm no longer only like... one of three people on my flist into the Avengers. So tell me, tell me if you're into said Avengers now. (And especially if you're into Steve/Tony now because my feelings.)

I took my younger cousin to see it yesterday and she LOVED IT SO MUCH and Iron Man's her favourite. I'm so proud and excited. It's as if a door has opened before us. A door of Actually Having Something In Common. Maybe we'll release her inner nerd together. Maybe I'll get her reading the comics next. THE FUTURE'S BRIGHT, THE FUTURE'S... TONY?

Just home from a wonderful long weekend of fangirl mayhem in Sydney with the always brilliant [info]mel_b_angel. More reports to come, but any weekend that involves Misha drawing a winged cock on a t-shirt must be a good one. Pic courtesy of the wonderful Amy (aka Sweetondean) from here.

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a specific multi-chapter Dean/Castiel fic that I read a while ago and can't recall the name or the author.

I think there were 6 parts. In one part, Crowley showed up and turned Dean into a girl because he needed Dean, Sam and Castiel to work a case for him. On the case, the bad guy manhandled Dean and jealous Cas and concerned Sam burst in to rescue him.

Another part had the guys and three other characters (I think two of them were original and one may have been Anna but I really don't remember) fighting fairies in a park. As a result of some magic and bad weather, Castiel almost drowns in a mud slide under a tree but Dean manages to pull him out and there's a rather epic kiss that takes places in the rain.

I also remember it took Dean a while to come to the realization that he wanted Castiel, he was pretty much in denial about it until the mud slide.

Hope you guys can help me, thanks so much :)

Does anyone know when we're going to be able to have links on our profile pages again? It's so annoying D: What a stupid way to counter spam, ffs. To just take links out of everyone's profiles.

Has there been any word on what's happening with this?

Title: El Jesús de la Montaña
Author: [info]mamapranayama
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 6,100
Genre: Gen
Category: hurt/comfort, angst, outsider POV, oh heck, let's just go ahead and call it AU because this will never happen on Show no matter how much I would like it to.
Spoilers & warnings: 7x23 season finale, "Survival of the Fittest", character death (sort of)

Summary: Up in the mountain there is a man who has lived the life of a legend -- a man that no one truly knows -- a man that has been alone for a very, very long time.

A/N: Big thanks to [info]ephemerall who was my beta for this thing and made it resemble something close to English -- you're the best, Hon!!!! I've messed around with this a little after she gave this back to me, so any mistakes you find are all mine.

Also, this story was mostly inspired by all of the recent pics of Jared Padalecki with his epic, glorious hair and hiatus beard that have been all over the place -- I couldn't help but draw some parallels between him and a certain iconic, religious figure (in appearance only, of course). Plus, I borrowed a lot from Dr. Who in this story(I'm a sucker for the whole Rory waiting 2000 years for Amy arc) -- I'm not even sure it makes any sense -- oh well, it is what it is.

I'm searching for a fic that I read a LONG time ago. Jared started out with Sandy. He'd visit her in LA and her roommate was a blogger or LJ user. She was a fan and would talk to Jared about the show. I think Jared opened a blog or an LJ account and maybe reads or comments on or even writes J2 fics. I think this is non-AU but for sure ends with Jensen and Jared together?

i know this isn't much to go on, sorry. But it's all I remember

Because I think more people ought to read this:

Mad Men by [info]ienablu
Somehow out of the Cage but not wanting to crash Dean's apple-pie life, Sam waits around Cicero, long enough to stumble into a hunt and across a mad man in a box.

Sam Winchester and the Eleventh Doctor are two of my most favourite fictional characters of all time, so the premise by itself is exciting enough, but the fic is superbly written--wonderfully understated and perfectly characterised. What's more, this is the start of what promises to be an awesome series.  \o/ YESSSSSSSS.

Spoilers for Supernatural until 5.22: Swan Song  and some vague spoilers from series 5 of Doctor Who. For this fic, anyway. Go read it!

Oh, and? I promised myself I will not sign up for any challenges this year, but I've already signed up for [info]spn_summergen (c'mon--it had some great submissions last year; how could I resist?) and now [info]spnspringfling. It was awesome fun last year, and--well. I can manage a 500 word fic in a week, right (although I haven't written a word in over two months)? Right?

I will eventually find the words (and the time) to make a post about being here in Oklahoma and what it's like for me, but I wanted to pop in and say that I saw The Avengers today and loved it (natch). I think there was a fangirl sitting in front of me at the cinema; at the end, when Bruce and Tony drive off, presumably towards Stark Tower, she said, "Aw, true love, riding off into the sunset together." So, if you know anyone in the Tulsa area who also went to see The Avengers today, tell them I said hi.
